RESEARCH

Research is the first step to any large scale project you do in high school, college, or the workforce. If you put the effort into your research, the rest of your process should be a breeze. That being said, research can be confusing and overwhelming. That's why we have libraries and librarians.

When to Google

Google's great for quick reference information like the weather, news, etc. Google gives you access to information that is free. This is a big distinction from libraries that give you free access to information that would normally cost you money to read (membership fees, paywalls, etc).

When to crack open a book

While not always as accessible as the internet, there is tons of information in books that you can't find online. We have three really easy ways to access print resources and eBooks. Click on the "Read" tab to find out more.

When to use a database

Databases are great. They save you tons of time. Most, if not all, the information has been viewed and vouched for by professionals and experts. Just like Google, you can access them from home on the internet with just a few clicks. WMHS and the Commonwealth of MA have purchased access to these databases for you. To check some of ours out, click on the "Research" tab above and click on databases.

How to  do all this research ethically...

Eventually, once you've found all this fabulous information, you'll need to give credit to the author. At WMHS we use Noodletools to collect notes, create bibliographies, and the like. For a 1:1 lesson, click on the ask a librarian button below. You should also have instructions on how to create an Noodletools account in your email from Ms. Ho.
